Pilibhit is the north-easternmost district of Bareilly division.
Pilibhit, situated in Rohilkhand region in the neighborhood of Siwalik on the Nepal boundary, lies in Uttar Pradesh and a municipality board in the Pilibhit district. Previously called Hafizabad, this forest area is the origin of Gomti. Situated in Bareilly division, Pilibhit was founded in late 15th century and was named after Hafiz Rahmat Khan. It was, however, much later that the place got the name Pilibhit from a village occupied by people of local community of the Periya clan called as “Old Pilibhit”.
In Pilibhit, there are four tehsils: Pilibhit, Puranpur, Barkhera, Bisalpur and seven blocks: Amaria, Lalaurikhera, Marauri, Barkhera, Bisalpur, Bilsanda and Puranpur. Another very popular name for the city is the title of “Basuri Nagari”, since the city is the largest producer and exporter of flutes in India. there are some Famous holy places of Hindus and Muslims like Gauri Shankar Temple, Orajhar Temple, Ardhanarishwer Temple, Jama Masjid and Pilibhit Tiger Reserve.
